Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has decided to cancel the license of country’s oldest mobile phone operator Citycell that has been debouched from providing their service since long.
The commission has recommended the government for the final approval of the issue. As per news source, recently, the decision to cancel Citycell’s license has been taken in a meeting by the commission. Previously, despite of postponing the spectrum allocation, the operator got it back as per the High Court order. But, the operator couldn’t start their operations.
Basically, there were several complaints against Citycell, like not clearing the due payments and as per court order, not clearing the payments of spectrum fee, license fee and violating the terms and conditions of license as well.
BTRC, mentioning all these facts, has sent a recommendation letter to the government to cancel the license. On the other hand, according to the Telecommunication Ministry, they would inform BTRC in this regard taking a final decision in a couple of days.
This recommendation letter has been sent last week, as Chairman of BTRC Dr. Shahjahan Mahmud informed. He also added-We will go for an auction of Citycell’s spectrum as soon as the government approves the cancelation of license.
