Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved for the cancelation of Citycell’s license. The file containing Prime Minister’s approval got reached the office of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) recently. Now, the commission is up to finish the formalities of the license cancelation by issuing a public notice, as informed a leading official of BTRC.
Due to this license cancelation, number of mobile phone operators in Bangladesh is declining one more. Previously, this number already was 5 as a result of Robi-Airtel merger. So, now it will be 4. But, as per 4G policy, government still keeps a way for a new mobile phone operator to get launched in the country.
At the beginning of June, BTRC appealed to the government for the cancelation of license of country’s oldest mobile phone operator Citycell. Some obligations usually exist over here to get Prime Minister’s approval in license cancelation or issue, as the PM performed the responsibilities of the State Minister of Post and Telecommunication Division, too.
