Sudden or pre-planned attack on media persons is not something new in our country. Even, the number of journalists injured or killed due to such incidents is not poor. Many pending cases including Sagore-Runi one are still under trial. The reasons behind such attacks and incidents are still unknown. Recently, IT Reporter of Prothom Alo and Special Reporter of the Monthly Computer Jagat Mr. Rahitul Islam Ruwel became a victim of such unexpected incident. Rahitul got saved just for inch from being severely injured.
Regarding the involvemennt in the incident, Rahitul said-I don’t have such hostility with anyone that I would get stabbed.
So, it may be an isolated incident or preplanned one, though it was not ensured. Now, he is well. Ruwel is one of the respected members of Bangladesh ICT Journalist Forum (BIJF) and has also participated in the BIJF election this year. Bangladesh ICT Journalist Forum (BIJF) condemned for the terrorist attack upon Rahitul Islam. BIJF wishes for his quick recovery through a protest message signed by the General Secretary of BIJF Mr. Washiqur Rahman.
As per source, on July 26, at 10 am, a motorbike rider wearing a helmet suddenly stabbed Ruwel in front of FDC. Ruwel got injured in his hand while trying to prevent the attack.
Such incidents are taking place continuosly in Dhaka city, but there is hardly observed any proper justice or solution in this regard. Victim’s family sought for attention of the concerned personnel regarding this issue as well as the proper application of law.
