BTRC Issues Guideline to Place Mobile Factory

Publish On : 09/09/2017

Ensuring an opportunity for domestic production in the mobile handset market worth of taka eighty thousand million, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued a guideline to place device production and assembling factory.

Previously, import duty over mobile phone imports got increased in the current budget, whereas import duty over spare parts has been reduced to 1% from 37% at a time. And, now BTRC has developed a guideline to place factories which they uploaded in their official website on September 7, 2017.

As per the guideline, the companies interested in placing factories are to be provided two types of enrollment certificates. They have to pay taka 50 lakh to BTRC along with 15% VAT to get ‘A’ category certificate. Simultaneously, they also have to form their own testing lab through standard layout and the lab must contain different departments or sectors enriched with all necessary testing facilities.

On the other hand, those who are interested to have ‘B’ category certificate need to pay BTRC taka 10 lakh and it doesn’t matter whether they have their own testing lab or not. But, they have to go for testing regarding handset production or assembling through an agreement signed with the companies enrolled with ‘A’ category certificate.
