WhatsApp, Viber Affect BTRC Revenue

Usage of different applications from social media including WhatsApp, Viber, Imo, Messenger are increasing rapidly and due to this, revenue to BTRC (Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission) gets affected badly.

Around taka 30 thousand and 7540 million has been added to BTRC treasury in the last 2016-17 fiscal year which indicates the lowest in last six years. Even in the previous year, the revenue was taka 40 thousand and 2080 million. Basically, the revenue got affected due to the reduction of income from telephone calls.

From the perspective of the revenue, the figure has been declined up to taka 9060 million in the last fiscal year in comparison with the previous one. Last year BTRC earned taka 30 thousand and 3610 million, whereas the figure in 2016-17 fiscal year, has been declined up to taka 20 thousand and 4550 million.
