Information Technology (IT) has been emerged as 21st century’s one of the most key changing perspectives. IT along with the name of digital revolution is being used extensively in education, health, industry and even in people’s livelihood. IT is getting emerged as the key controller in around every sphere. Under such circumstances, the declaration of digital revolution was made on December 12, 2008, the day when it was committed to build up ‘Digital Bangladesh’ through the election manifesto of Bangladesh Awami League. Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared of ‘Vision 2021’ in 2008 on the eve of 9th National Election in which the major issue was ‘Digital Bangladesh’. Aiming to build up knowledge based modern Bangladesh by 2021, the thought ‘Digital Bangladesh’ was developed by our honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's updated and modern thoughts and from the most desirable IT based knowledge gained by globally prominent IT Expert Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
Execution of ‘Digital Bangladesh’ firstly commenced in 2009. In the last seven years, ICT expansion has been observed vastly and remarkably during the journey to ‘Digital Bangladesh’. This IT based amazing development and progress is considered a ‘Digital Renaissance’, as the experts remarked and to create this Digital Renaissance ICT Division undoubtedly played a key role in this regard along with the guideline of Prime Minister’s ICT Advisor Mr. Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
Achievement of international rewards as recognition for ICT sector’s different initiatives has earned a unique tribute for Bangladesh. Among them, some remarkable ones are South South Award 2011: Digital Development for Digital Health, Global ICT Excellence Award 2014, South South Co-operation Visionary Award 2014, World IT Services Alliance (WITSA) Award 2014, ICTs in Sustainable Development Award 2015, ICT for Development Award 2016, Global Mobile Government Award 2017, Asian Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) Digital Government Award 2016 and many more.
Considering all the progress of the country contributeded by ICT Division, a cabinet meeting was held on November 12, 2017 aiming to declare ‘December 12’ as National ICT Day. The meeting was presided over by ICT Secretary Subir Kishore Chowdhury. A decision was taken in the meeting to observe the day ‘December 12’ as National ICT Day and besides, a No Objection Certificate was also issued from Finance Divison in this regard.
ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak said- Awami League President and Current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared of Vision Digital Bangladesh in the year 2008 on December 12. Keeping faith in that declaration, the general people elected Awami League and provided them an opportunity to serve the people. After forming the government, through our activities the concept ‘Digital Bangladesh’ has been applauded much in many countries and also considered an idol across the world. Today, country’s general people are enjoying the outcome of this vision. So, due to the approval of the cabinet, the activities of Digital Bangladesh, today, forwards on more step ahead to the ultimate goal.
