The country's electronics giant Walton has moved one step ahead towards green production and the use of renewable solar power. A 3.3-megawatt (MW) rooftop solar plant has been installed at the headquarters of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC.

The plant will meet about 07.86 percent of the total daily electricity demand of Walton Headquarters. Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) has financed this solar power project in Walton.

Walton Hi-Tech Industries' Chairman S M Shamsul Alam, IDCOL Chairman, and Economic Relation Division's Senior Secretary Sharifa Khan inaugurated the 3.3MW rooftop solar project at Walton Headquarters at Chandra, Gazipur on Saturday last (November 11, 2023).

The inaugural ceremony was also attended, among others, by IDCOL's Executive Director and CEO Alamgir Morshed, Head of Renewable Energy Enamul Karim Pavel, Company Secretary M Maftun Ahmed, KfW Development Bank's Country Director for Bangladesh and Nepal Michael Sumser, Walton Hi-Tech's Additional Managing Director Major General Ibne Fazal Shayekhuzzaman (Retd.), Deputy Managing Director Md. Yousuf Ali, Senior Executive Directors Nizam Uddin Mazumder, Abdullah-Al-Mamun, Sohel Rana, Easir Al-Imran, and Mohasin Sarder, Executive Directors Md. Nazmul Islam, Khaled Bin Kamal, Shahana Akhter, and Mohasin Ali Molla.

IDCOL Chairman Sharifa Khan said, "Walton is not only the pride for the owners, the workers but also a surprise for the whole of Bangladesh. Walton showed what Bangladesh can do. Walton is gradually moving towards green production and renewable energy. The government has a huge target for renewable energy and Walton is also a part of that. We are very happy to take us as the partner of Walton not only for renewable energy but also for any other expansion of their renewable power plant. We believe that Walton will be the mega supplier of electrical and electronics production across the world in the coming days."

KfW Development Bank's Country Director in Bangladesh Michael Sumser said, "I am very impressed about the highest standard what they (Walton) are producing and the proficiency of the product. I am proud to be part of the inauguration of the solar power project of 3.3MW, which is really a very big plant. Walton shows the great potential that solar energy has in this country. They are not using agricultural land, but they use roofs that are so far unused. The potential would be huge. The company's produced solar energy is financially viable and makes environmentally lot of sense."

At Walton Headquarters, the IDCOL delegations watched a corporate video documentary of Walton. After that, they visited Walton’s well-decorated product display center as well as manufacturing plants of smart refrigerator, mold, and die.
