The government has preserved information of 80 lakh residents of the capital city in a citizen database, to operate digital monitoring.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia disclosed the matter Tuesday (Jan 29).

He was talking to the reporters after inaugurating Jahurul Islam City CCTV Control Room in Aftabnagar and attending a rally of Police Week.

The database, codenamed ‘Citizen Information Management System (CIMS), has been made to ensure sustainable security like other developed cities of the world.

“At this moment, information of 80 lakh citizens are recorded in our database, so that we can trace the residents if any crime happened in any locality,” he added.

Asaduzzman Mia further underscored the need of digital monitoring to make localities of Dhaka crime-free and safe
