15% VAT has to be paid on mobile handsets assembling in the country which may bankrupt the investors of this recent uprising sector in the country, as the entrepreneurs think. According to them, due to this VAT, tax imposed on mobile handsets assembled in the country is more than the tax imposed on mobile phones imported from outside the country. As a result, the sector may collapse right here and those who already invested may confront a huge loss.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith presented the budget of 2018-19 fiscal year in the National Parliament House on June 7. In the budget, handset manufacturing is proposed to be VAT and surcharge free. But in VAT SRO, assembling is defined individually where VAT exemption facility is mentioned as for manufacturer.
