Ministry of Shipping of Bangladesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited (BCSCL) to get Bangabandhu Satellite service. As per the agreement, Bangabandhu Satellite-1 will provide satellite services to above 35 thousand local and global ships located in Bay of Bengal through which BCSCL is likely to earn taka 420 million in a year.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at the conference room of the Shipping Ministry on July 8 where BCSCL M.D Saiful Islam and Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Md. Abdus Samad signed the agreement. Apart from them, Post, Telecommunication and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Telecommunication Secretary Shyam Sundar Shikder and different concerned officials were also present in the MoU signing ceremony.

As per the agreement, besides availing different services through Bangabandhu Satellite, all the ships located at seaside and local river channels will remain safe and secured. Even, they will get faster internet service.
