Fifty-six teachers of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) have resigned protesting the assault carried out by leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Sunday.

 

The teachers including 2 regent board members, 4 deans 4 provosts and 14 departmental chairmen submitted the resignation paper to Registrar Dr. Touhidul Islam at 12:30 pm Monday (October 8).

 

University sources said MBSTU Physics department published the 2nd semester results for second year honors students where a female student, Ishita Biswas, failed with a GPA of 1.98 out of 4. On Sunday, some BCL leaders forcefully put Ishita Biswas into an examination hall of another Physics course Quantum Mechanics-1 despite the department’s disapproval to her. When department chairman and other teachers tried to prevent Ishita from taking the test, BCL men verbally assaulted abused and attempted assault them. Ishita managed to complete the test under BCL leaders’ watch. After the test, BCL men also staged demonstration to change the university ordinance.

 

MBSTU unit BCL president Sajib and general secretary Saidur Rahman held meeting with Vice Chancellor about changing the ordinance and later said the demonstration will continue till it happens.

 

On the other hand, unable to get any justice from the university authority, all teachers submitted resignation.

 

Teachers Association president Dr. Md Shahin Uddin said that they demand fair trial over the incident.

MBSTU Vice Chancellor Dr Md Alauddin told journalists that the matter is being investigated and responsible people will be brought to justice.
