Mobile phone users across the country now can easily check whether their handsets are legal and verified as Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has developed a database.
Besides, Bangladesh Mobile Phone Importers Association (BMPIA) in cooperation with BTRC has launched a service named “NOC Automation and IMEI Database (NAID)” on Tuesday (Jan 22).
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar launched the service at BTRC Bhaban.
The user has to type KYD and 15-digit IMEI number (found on mobile phone packet, without the asterisk numbers i.e. *#) with a space and send to 16002 number. (KYD<space>15-digit IMEI number)
For checking an old handset, the user has to press *#06# to get the IMEI number and to follow the same process mentioned above.
In reply, BTRC will send the user confirmation message whether his/her handset is legal and the IMEI number is stored on the database.
Mustafa Jabbar termed the service opening a ‘milestone moment’ in the history of information & technology.
“As the database has been created, illegal market and theft-mugging of mobile phone will stop. Besides, the loss of tax will also be fixed,” said BTRC Acting Chairman Md Jahurul Haque.
BTRC Spectrum Division Director General (DG) Brig Gen Nasim Parvez, BMPIA President Md Ruhul Alam Al Mahbub and Telecommunication Division Acting Secretary Ashok Kumar Biswas, among others, were present.
