Md. Abu Bakar Siddique, a retired Additional Secretary from the Ministry of Land, has been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). He replaces Aminul Haque, who retired from the position.

His appointment, effective for three years, was confirmed on Wednesday by canceling his post-retirement leave. His identification number is 6024. A Grade-One officer, Abu Bakar Siddique was previously overlooked for promotion during the tenure of the then-Awami League government. However, he was reinstated in the promotion process after the interim government took office following a mass uprising.

After nearly a decade, he received consecutive promotions last year—on August 13 as Deputy Secretary, August 19 as Joint Secretary, and October 2 as Additional Secretary.

With his appointment, the number of commissioners at BTRC now stands at four. The other commissioners include Chairman Major General (Retd.) Md. Emdad Ul Bari, Mahmud Hossain from the Spectrum Division, and Brigadier General Iqbal Ahmed from the Engineering & Operations Division.
