bKash and Huawei have been honored with the prestigious GSMA GLOMO Award for "Best Fintech Innovation" in recognition of their digital loan service. The award was presented at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, held in Barcelona.
The GLOMO "Best Fintech Innovation" Award acknowledges groundbreaking financial technology solutions that transform how individuals and businesses access and manage financial services. bKash and Huawei have played a pioneering role in launching the "Pay Later" service in Bangladesh, offering short-term microloans to underserved populations to help them manage their daily expenses.
Since its inception in 2018, bKash has extended financial services to 61% of Bangladesh’s adult population. However, 37% of citizens still rely on high-interest lenders for emergency needs, and only 9% of adults use banking services. To bridge this gap, bKash, in collaboration with Huawei, introduced the "Pay Later" service, enabling instant access to microloans and digital payments without paperwork. This initiative has particularly benefited rural women and small business entrepreneurs, aiding in capital accumulation, poverty reduction, and expanding local e-commerce.
Mohammad Azmal Huda, Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO) of bKash, stated, “By leveraging Huawei’s Mobile Money Platform, we have rapidly expanded over 20 essential payment services and introduced the ‘Pay Later’ micro-financial service. This initiative has played a crucial role in empowering millions financially and accelerating financial inclusion across Bangladesh.”
