The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is reducing the maximum limit of SIM cards registered against a single national identity card to 10. Previously, the maximum limit was 15.
The BTRC initiated this process of SIM registration through National Identity Cards in 2015. In October 2017, the limit was set at a maximum of 15 SIMs that could be purchased against one national identity card. Now, this is being further reduced to 10.
If subscribers wish, they can check the SIM cards registered against their national identity card number. After that, they can decide which SIMs to keep and which ones to deactivate. To deactivate a SIM card, one needs to contact the customer care center of the respective service provider.
How to Check SIM Cards Registered in Your Name
Regardless of your mobile network service provider – whether you are a Grameenphone, Robi Axiata, Banglalink, or Teletalk subscriber – you can check the number and list of SIM cards registered in your name free of charge from any SIM card. To do this, first dial *16001# from your mobile phone. On the next screen, you will be asked to enter the last four digits of your national identity card number. Enter the last four digits correctly.
In the return message, a list of SIM card numbers registered with the subscriber’s national identity card will be provided. From that list, you will get an idea about the SIM cards registered in your name.
