A roundtable discussion was held in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, on May 10 to help remove challenges faced by women in e-commerce. The main goal of this event was to make it easier for women to join and succeed in e-commerce. The organizers wanted to create awareness, improve skills, provide inspiration, and build strong networks for women to boost their involvement in online businesses.

The roundtable was titled “SheMeansDigital - Breaking Barriers: What’s Holding Women Back in E-commerce”. It was organized together by the Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Daffodil International University and the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) Bangladesh.

Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, who is the Chairman of both GEN Bangladesh and Daffodil International University, led the event. He said that ensuring women are actively involved in the digital world is very important right now.

The Chief Guest, Naushad Mustafa, Director of the SME Department at Bangladesh Bank, talked about the need for economic policies that support women. He also highlighted the importance of special financial products to help women easily enter the SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) sector.

Dr. Mohammad Nuruzzaman, the Chief Executive Officer of Daffodil Family, gave the main presentation. Several special guests attended the event, including Dr. Rubina Husain, President of the Bangladesh Federation of Women Entrepreneurs; Munir Hasan, Head Coordinator of Digital Transformation & Youth Programs at Prothom Alo; Sharmin Atik, Executive Vice President at Eastern Bank Limited; and Samiha Khan, Deputy Director of Brand & Communication at Daffodil Family.

The event was hosted by K M Hasan Ripon, Managing Director of GEN Bangladesh. Mohammad Kamruzzaman, Head of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Department at Daffodil International University, also spoke at the discussion.

Women entrepreneurs, people who make policies, e-commerce experts, and those active in the startup community came together at the roundtable. They discussed the current difficulties women face in digital businesses and e-commerce.
