Yesterday (August 28) Deputy Commissioner Abu Nayeem Mohammed Maruf Khan submitted GI Application for the Amrita Sagar banana and Rambai of Narsingdi. He said that Amrita Sagar and Rambai are among the two major cash crops of the region that are contributing to the local economy as well as district branding. 

Many educated people who were previously unemployed are now earning money by growing and selling these two fruits. We submitted GI application to commercially expand these two products and we are hopeful that we shall soon receive our GI recognition. He thanked the E-Commerce Development Center (EDC) for overall support in the documentation and application process of the products.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Md. Mostofa Monoar, Revenue Deputy Collector, Deputy Director of District Agriculture Extension Department Md. Azizur Rahman, EDC President Kakoly Talokder, Treasurer Ummay Shahera Anika, Members Irin Akter Rita, Tabassum Hossain, various district government officials, and media persons were present at the event. 

The office of the Deputy Commissioner, Narsingdi, and the E-Commerce Development Center (EDC) signed an MoU on Sunday (August 27, 2023). Deputy Commissioner Abu Nayeem Mohammed Maruf Khan and EDC President Kakoly Talokder signed it on behalf of their respective institutions.
