The Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO), an organization consisting of various organizations in the ICT sector of 22 countries in the Asia-Oceania region, has awarded Abdullah H Kafi as their Lifetime Chairman for the first time in its 39-year history. During a recent program in Singapore, Mr. Kafi was presented with the plaque by ASOCIO Chairmen David (Malaysia), Bryan (Taiwan), Bunrak (Thailand), WITSA Chairman Dr. Shon Seah & ED Dr. Dan, and the Chairman's of Singapore IT Federation, Hongkong & Vietnam. They showed their honour to Mr. Kafi by introducing these awards, and to introduce the awards, they had to change their constitution. It is really amazing as a Bangladeshi that our people have achieved such honour and made us proud. ASOCIO was established in 1984 from Tokyo, Japan with the objective to promote, encourage and foster relationships and trade between its members, and to develop thecomputing industry in the region. ASOCIO represents the interests of 29 economies, including Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea Sri Lanka,Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as seven guest members from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Russia, France, and Kenya.Today, ASOCIO’s members account for more than 11,000 ICT companies and represent approximately US$450 billion of ICTrevenue in the region. Bangladesh has been involved with this organization for a long time, and Abdullah H. Kafihas been playing a key role in developing the network between Bangladesh and the globe, including ASSOCIO, since his involvement with it. Abdullah H Kafi was the president of Bangladesh Computer Samiti and he was one of the pioneers in the hardware business in Bangladesh. Bangladesh samiti was taken from the membership of ASSOCIO in 1995.
