A group of students from the Mechatronics Engineering Department at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) has developed a remote-controlled bomb disposal robot for the Bangladesh Army. Named Hades-X-ZeroThree, the robot takes inspiration from Greek mythology, with 'Hades' representing the Greek god of the underworld and 'X-ZeroThree' signifying its initial development stage.

Led by Kazi Atif, the team also included Md. Al Tasdeed Ul Haque, Yashsir Arafat, and Ariful Islam, under the guidance of Roknuzzaman Rana, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and Feroze Ali, Chief Assistant Professor of Mechatronics Engineering.

Hades-X-ZeroThree boasts the capability to locate and retrieve bombs across various terrains, including high and low roads, fields, and mud. With the capacity to lift objects exceeding three kilograms, the robot can be controlled using radio waves from a distance of one kilometer. It features a specially designed hand for safe bomb defusal, integrated wireless cameras and microphones for real-time video and audio transmission, and night vision and headlights for day and night operations.

Remarkably, the robot's construction cost remains minimal as it is domestically built. Compared to commercially available robots with similar features, Hades-X-ZeroThree is significantly cheaper, costing only a fraction of the market price.

However, the team encountered significant challenges during development, primarily due to time and resource constraints. Limited funding necessitated resourcefulness, leading them to manufacture most components themselves, from the chassis and robotic arms to the wheels. This involved utilizing local workshops due to the university's machine shop being closed during the Ramadan holidays.

On April 19, Hades-X-ZeroThree was successfully handed over to the Bangladesh Army at the Qadirabad Cantonment in Natore. The robot underwent thorough evaluation by army representatives, who expressed interest in collaborating on future advancements with the team.
