The Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, has stated that they are working to integrate Bangladeshi startups with various frontiers of technology, including AI, quantum computing, microchip design, and cybersecurity.
He mentioned that for the first time, 12 Bangladeshi startups participated in the Vivatech-2024 event with innovative technologies.
In an interview with Mr. Luke Brown, a reporter for Vivatech News in Paris, France, the Minister said that there was no startup ecosystem in Bangladesh 15 years ago. Since then, they have encouraged young innovators and entrepreneurs to come up with innovative solutions. Additionally, Startup Bangladesh Limited has been established to facilitate startups through campaigns and accelerator programs.
Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the guidance of ICT Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Bangladesh has quickly developed its startup ecosystem. There are approximately 2500 startups in Bangladesh, creating job opportunities in the ICT sector. These startups are solving local problems through innovative ideas.
In response to Luke Brown's question, the Minister further elaborated that Bangladesh has been able to provide internet access to 130 million users in the last 15 years. Revenue in the ICT sector has increased from 26 million dollars to 2 billion dollars. Currently, around 700,000 active IT freelancers are working on various online platforms. Moreover, about 2500 government services have been digitized, and 52,000 websites have been created in the country.
Furthermore, modern technology-equipped computer labs have been established in schools and colleges across Bangladesh, where young people are being trained to become skilled human resources. Building on this success, we are moving forward towards the realization of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's vision of 'Vision 2041: A Smart Bangladesh'.
