On Monday, social media platform X experienced a temporary disruption, which its owner Elon Musk attributed to a major cyberattack. Musk stated, “We get attacked constantly, but this was a particularly powerful and well-coordinated attack. Either a large organization or a state actor was involved.” The report comes via Reuters.

However, cybersecurity experts have expressed skepticism regarding Musk’s claim. They noted that such Denial of Service (DoS) attacks can often be executed by small groups or even individuals.

According to Downdetector, at the peak of the outage, 39,021 users in the United States were unable to access X. By 5 PM, the number had declined to 1,500.

Musk further claimed that the attack originated from Ukraine-based IP addresses. However, an expert countered that most of the malicious traffic came from the United States, Vietnam, and Brazil, with Ukraine's involvement being minimal.

Notably, Musk has previously made controversial remarks regarding the Russia-Ukraine war and has criticized the continuation of the conflict, aligning with Donald Trump on the issue. Source: Reuters
