During a discussion with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the LlamaCon event last week, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shared insights into AI's role in code generation within his company. Nadella stated that an estimated 20% to 30% of the code found in Microsoft's repositories is "written by software," a term he used to indicate AI.
Tech news portal TechCrunch wrote that this disclosure came after Zuckerberg inquired about the proportion of Microsoft's code currently generated by AI. Nadella elaborated that the effectiveness of AI code generation differs by language, showing better outcomes with Python than with C++.
Looking ahead, Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott has previously made a bold prediction, anticipating that 95% of all code will be AI-generated by 2030.
When Nadella turned the question back to Zuckerberg, the Meta CEO admitted he did not have a comparable figure for Meta's codebase. The report also points out that Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently reported AI generating over 30% of Google's code.
