Following the government’s decision to ban Awami League’s activities, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is taking steps to stop all kinds of promotion and activities of the party online, including social media. The organization is waiting for the advisory council’s decision to be issued as a circular.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, the special assistant to the Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, told the media about this information yesterday, Sunday. He said, “We are waiting for the circular of the advisory council’s decision. Once the circular is issued, formal letters will be sent through BTRC to Meta and all online platforms to ban these pages.”

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb commented that if the letter is sent through BTRC, it may be implemented quickly.

The interim government has decided to ban all kinds of activities of the Awami League after facing the July Unity’s continuous movement. According to this decision of the advisory council, along with the party’s field politics, now initiatives are being taken to ban online activities as well.

There is a verified page on Facebook called ‘Bangladesh Awami League’ with about 3.9 million followers. After the advisory council’s decision on Saturday night, a protest post was made on the page. Until the writing of this report, posts were being regularly made from this page.
