The company that created ChatGPT, OpenAI, and Microsoft are working on updating their current agreement. Under this new agreement, OpenAI might be able to offer shares to the public (IPO) in the future if they need more capital. In return, Microsoft will get regular access to OpenAI’s latest AI models, Financial Times reports.

Microsoft has already invested $13 billion in OpenAI. There’s been some confusion about how much of OpenAI Microsoft will own in exchange for this money. According to the Financial Times, Microsoft might give up some of its OpenAI shares in exchange for the right to use OpenAI’s new technology for a period longer than 2030.

The original $1 billion deal between Microsoft and OpenAI from 2019 is also being updated. Last week, The Information reported that under the new structure, OpenAI will give Microsoft a smaller portion of its profits.

A report from Reuters news agency says that in January, Microsoft made a joint agreement with Oracle in the US and SoftBank Group in Japan to build artificial intelligence data centers in the US worth $50 billion. Soon after this, the American software giant also made some changes to its agreement with OpenAI.
