Officials at the Election Commission’s (EC) National Identity Registration Wing are having trouble accessing the NID server. This is causing delays in giving NID-related services to people.

The main reason for the problem is that the required One-Time Passwords (OTPs) for logging into the NID server are not arriving. Muhammad Ashraf Hossain, a system manager for NID in the EC, said this around 1:00 PM today (Tuesday). He promised that the issue would be fixed quickly.

Earlier, around 12:00 PM, the head of the National Identity Registration Wing, ASM Humayun Kabir, explained how logging into the server works. He told reporters, ‘After putting in the user ID and password to log in to the NID server, a One-Time Password (OTP) is needed. Because this OTP is not arriving, EC officials cannot get into the server.’

However, Humayun Kabir mentioned that work like taking photos and collecting fingerprints (biometric data) is still happening. He also said that NID services will start again once the system of the company that provides the OTP service is repaired.
