The price of locally manufactured and assembled mobile phones may increase. In the proposed budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, the VAT exemption facility in this sector has been slightly reduced. In other words, the reduced VAT rate is being increased. The proposed increase is between two and two and a half percent, depending on the production category.

On the other hand, the price of some computer monitors may decrease. This is because the proposed budget for 2025-26 grants VAT exemption at the manufacturing and business levels for computer monitors up to 30 inches. Previously, this exemption was applicable for monitors up to 22 inches. Furthermore, interactive monitors have been included in this list. Due to the VAT exemption, the prices of monitors ranging from 22 to 30 inches may decrease.

Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed made these announcements while presenting the proposed budget today, Monday. His budget speech was broadcast from the Bangladesh Television studio at 3 PM. In his written speech, the Finance Adviser stated that the VAT exemption at the manufacturing and business levels for computer monitors has been extended from 22 inches to 30 inches.

Earlier, the Advisory Council, chaired by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, approved the national budget of approximately Tk 7 lakh 90 thousand crore for the fiscal year 2025-26. This is the country’s 54th national budget.
