Google is testing a new feature that turns search results into AI-generated podcasts. Initially launched in NotebookLM, this feature, known as “Audio Overviews,” is now available for testing in search labs.

Users can opt in to try it out. Once enabled, an embedded player appears below the “People also ask” section in search results. Instead of reading, users can listen to two AI voices summarizing the information.

To generate the audio, users must click a button. The AI then provides a conversational summary of the results. Sources are included, with options to adjust playback speed.

Google suggests trying it with queries like “how do noise cancellation headphones work.” While it works well for simple topics, complex searches may lead to inaccuracies. Unlike NotebookLM, the search involves a broader range of sources, increasing the chance of errors.

Audio Overviews were first introduced in NotebookLM. They are also part of Google’s Gemini Deep Research mode and Google Docs. Given Google's rapid AI development, it's likely these overviews will appear more broadly soon.

This feature offers a new way to interact with search results, adding an audio dimension to Google's AI capabilities.
