Popular ride-sharing platform Pathao has launched a new feature, 'Pathao Connect', aimed at improving safety for passengers and riders who arrange trips outside the app.
Concerns over offline rides—arranged without the use of apps—have grown in recent years, with reports of incidents involving unverified riders and a lack of tracking or security measures.
More than 60 percent of daily bike rides in Bangladesh are currently conducted outside platforms, leaving both passengers and riders vulnerable.
Pathao officials explained that Pathao Connect is designed to address this risk by offering a simple and secure way to bring offline rides under the app's safety umbrella.
Even without mobile data or a smartphone, either the user or the rider can link the ride by entering a code or OTP through the app. Once connected, the ride becomes trackable, with rider information saved in the Pathao system.
This ensures access to the platform's full range of safety features, including live location sharing, driver details, and free trip safety coverage.
Importantly, the system retains the flexibility of offline rides—fares can still be negotiated directly, and cash payments are accepted without additional charges. At the same time, riders benefit from security, accountability, and transparency.
In addition, passengers using Pathao Connect earn Pathao Points, which can later be redeemed for discounts on future trips. The rides also qualify for exclusive offers and benefits.
Pathao said the initiative was developed to make everyday commuting in Bangladesh both easier and safer. The company emphasised that Connect was built on a simple principle: ensuring security does not require internet connectivity, only the right tools.
"At the end of the day, Pathao Connect guarantees a ride that is simple, safe, and secure—no matter the situation," the company said.
