National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued a guideline on June 7 regarding imposing 15% VAT on mobile handsets assembling. But, later, there was an amendment introduced in the guideline and the VAT rate on mobile handset assembling was declined to 5%.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith placed this amended proposal during delivering his closing speech on budget in the National Parliament House on June 27. It is to be approved today along with with budget of 2018-19 fiscal year.

Government issued a guideline providing a special tax facility for the first time on mobile handset assembling in the budget of 2017-18 fiscal year. Considering this guideline, six local and global companies mobile handset assembling factory in the country.
