Despite having sufficient development of transaction system in country’s banking channel, Mobile Banking progressed much in comparison with e-Payment system. Considering the difference between the number of Mobile banking and Electronic Payment users, it is clearly seen that there are lots of opportunities in Bangladesh to innovate more Electronic Payment systems of global standard, as said the speakers in a roundtable discussion titled ‘Payment Ecosystem Development for Digital Bangladesh – Barriers and Potentiality (ডিজিটাল বাংলাদেশের জন্যে পেমেন্ট ইকোসিস্টেম নির্মাণ- প্রতিবন্ধকতা ও সম্ভাবনা) organized by Association of Bankers’ Bangladesh and The Daily Star on July 30 at a localhotel in Dhaka.  

GM of Bangladesh Bank Payment System Division Lila Rashid- Internet banking will be the future of our banking sector. But, as most of the banks don’t invest sufficiently, we can’t progress as per expectation.

On the other hand, Managing Director of Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited Abul Kashem Mohammad Shirin said- The major challenge in country’s mobile banking activities is that the number of active institutions over here is only two, though we have around 18-19 companies. Image collected.
