The government has taken a project of 296 crore 35 lakh 31 thousand taka entitled “Digitization of National Archives and National Libraries, Expansion and Modernization of Online Services” for the establishment of digital archives and libraries. The project should be implemented by June 2027. After the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) meeting, the project is now awaiting final approval from the Planning Commission.

The project is being implemented by the Department of Archives and Libraries under the Ministry of Culture. And the Bangladesh Army is working as the implementing agency.

Faisal Hasan, Senior Information Officer at the Ministry of Culture, said that under this project, about 9 (nine) crore archival and library materials are converted into digital system using modern equipment (barcoding/RFID/others) and through this, National Archives and National Libraries will be converted and digitized. 

In addition to ensuring the security of digital data of National Archives and National Libraries, online services will also be expanded. The capacity of officers and employees of the Directorate of Archives and Libraries and officers and employees of records related government offices will also be enhanced.
