The newly elected Executive Committee of Bangladesh Christian Lekhok (Writers’) Forum has started its formal journey with an oath ceremony. The Oath Ceremony and Views Exchange Meeting was held at auditorium of Mother Teresa Bhaban at Tejgaon, in the capital Dhaka, at 5:00 pm on Dec. 7, Saturday. About 40 people including members of the new committee, forum’s members and guests attended the event.

Amal Milton Rozario, the president of the newly elected committee presided over the program. Sohrab Hasan, a poet and joint editor of leading Bengali newspaper Prothom Alo attended the program as the chief guest and Archbishop Bejoy N. D’Cruze of Dhaka Archdiocese was the guest of honor. Other guests included Father Augustine Bulbul Rebeiro, editor of Weekly Pratibeshi, Father Joyanto S. Gomes, parish priest of Holy Rosary Church, writer Vincent Khokon Corraya, and director of Caritas Development Institute, Theophil Nokrek.

Archbishop Bejoy N. D’Cruze led the Oath ceremony of the newly elected executive committee. In his speech Archbishop Bejoy D’Cruze said: “Writers should make best of their efforts to uphold human dignity with their writings, and they must set example by establishing unity and bonding of love.”

Sohrab Hasan urged the new committee to be committed to their promises. “The newly elected committee has great responsibilities, because you represent this organization. You should encourage new writers to keep writing and ensure more writers can make national-level contributions,” he said.

Father Augustine Bulbul Rebeiro said, “We must strive more to engage ourselves in the ‘culture of writing.’ I hope the new committee composed of senior and young writers will be able to expand the scope of the forum.”

The program featured cultural and literary presentations including poem recitations, songs and dance as well as views exchange from guests and members.

Bangladesh Christian Lekhok Fourm was founded in 1997. It held the first election with ballot on Nov. 1, 2024. A progressive panel of young and senior writers secured a landslide victory.

The members of the three-year-term committee are President Amal Milton Rozario, Vice-President Pius Serao and Helen Kapali, Secretary Rock Ronald Rozario, Assistant Secretary Jennyviev Rozario, Treasurer Himel Rozario, Publications Secretary Justine Gomes, Organizing Secretary Shovon Paul Cruze, Religious Affairs Secretary Shipra Gomes, International Affairs Secretary Gilbert Gomes, and Elected Members-Mala Rebeiro, Bijoy Manuel D Pares, and Pauline Francis.
