For the first time in Bangladesh;s history, the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy Dhaka, organized a special inspirational event on the occasion of Victory Day. The program, held on Monday, at the BCC Auditorium in Agargaon, featured NASA;s Chief Astronaut, Joseph M. Acaba, who shared his remarkable experiences in space exploration and stories of new opportunities for youth.

The event was graced by the presence of Joseph M. Acaba, NASA;s Chief Astronaut, as the Chief Guest. The program was further enriched by the presence of esteemed dignitaries James Gardiner, Economic Unit Chief of the U.S. Embassy Dhaka; and Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Policy Adviser (ICT Coordination; Reform) at the ICT Division. Ishrat Hasan, Joint Secretary of the ICT Division, was also present. The event was hosted by Rafel Kabir, Chairman of the BASIS Associate Committee.

Highlighting the valor of the historical July-August student movements, which exemplify the courage of overcoming challenges and transforming possibilities, BASIS organized this program as part of the nation’s grand celebration of Victory Day. This initiative aimed to inspire Bangladesh’s youth-particularly participants, mentors, judges of the NASA Space Apps Challenge Bangladesh segment, and members of the BASIS Students Forum-to explore career opportunities in space science, robotics, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

During his address, Joseph M. Acaba pledged NASA’s support in promoting space education in Bangladesh. He said, “With the support of the US Embassy and the government’s interest, I am eager to work on initiatives that turn dreams of space exploration and astronaut careers into reality for Bangladesh’s youth.” He added, “With passion and perseverance, success is inevitable.”

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb emphasized the importance of leadership and innovation in solving national challenges, urging the youth to leverage AI and satellite technology for environmental protection. He remarked, “Joseph’s visit to Bangladesh is a milestone. Passion and dedication will lead to success.”

Ishrat Hasan highlighted the historical significance of Victory Day and called for an objective-driven approach to progress. Reflecting on Bangladesh’s student movements, she stated, “The resilience of our youth will shape a brighter future for the nation.”

As a symbolic gesture, a flag carried during the historic events of July 36 was presented to Joseph M. Acaba. Following the program, guests paid tribute at the July 36 Martyrs’ Epitaph located near the auditorium.

BASIS believes this groundbreaking event will open new doors of possibilities for Bangladesh’s youth, fostering a passion for space science, robotics, and STEM education. The organization is committed to paving the way for a brighter, innovation-driven future.
