Meta has announced the launch of a new video editing app called ‘Edits,’ following the removal of TikTok-related CapCut from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The announcement was reported by TechCrunch.

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, shared on Threads that the app will be rolled out for iOS devices next month, with an Android version to follow later. He also mentioned that Meta is working with a select group of content creators to gather feedback on the app.

“Our new app, ‘Edits,’ is for anyone interested in creating videos on mobile. There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens, it’s our responsibility to provide creators with the best tools,” Mosseri wrote.

He highlighted that the app will include special features for creative projects, such as an Inspiration tab, an Idea Tracking tab, an advanced camera, and the ability to share drafts with friends or collaborators. Additionally, users will be able to analyze the performance of videos published on Instagram.

“This app is not for everyone but rather for content creators,” Mosseri emphasized.

Meta has a history of responding to market gaps. In 2020, after TikTok was banned in India, Meta quickly launched Instagram Reels. Now, with CapCut’s absence, Meta aims to attract video creators with this new offering. Source: TechCrunch
