Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has introduced a new vertical video feed for its U.S. users, leveraging the removal of ByteDance apps like TikTok and Lemon8 from U.S. app stores. The news was reported by TechCrunch.
A new video tab has been added to the app’s bottom navigation bar, enabling users to quickly access video content.
BlueSky, another social media platform, has also unveiled a custom feed for vertical videos.
On Sunday, X announced in a post, “Starting today, we’re rolling out a new immersive home for videos for users in the U.S.”
Previously, X users could tap on videos within the timeline and scroll up to watch short videos. The new tab, however, serves as a dedicated section exclusively for video content.
X had earlier experimented with a media tab for videos, as revealed by app reverse engineers, but this marks the first official announcement from the platform regarding such a feature.
In recent times, X has placed significant focus on enhancing the video experience. Last year, it launched a standalone TV app for showcasing videos from various organizations and content creators.
With TikTok facing challenges in the U.S., platforms like X, Meta’s ‘Edits,’ and BlueSky are capitalizing on the opportunity to attract video creators. Source: TechCrunch
