A four-member delegation from Canon Singapore recently concluded a two-day visit to Bangladesh, aiming to explore new growth opportunities within the country’s booming Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. The visit also sought to strengthen Canon’s longstanding partnership with its local associate, J.A.N Associates.
The delegation was led by Mr. Toshiyuki Ishii, President and CEO of Canon Singapore, who also serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Canon Asia. He was accompanied by Mr. Andrew Koh Chee Yan, Senior Vice President; Mr. Norihiro Katagiri, Senior Vice President; and Mr. Takashi Ichinomiya, Director, all from Canon Singapore. Throughout their visit, the delegation was joined by Mr. Abdullah H. Kafi, Managing Director of J.A.N Associates.
Upon their arrival in Dhaka on May 7, Mr. Kafi warmly welcomed the Canon representatives. The delegation then visited J.A.N Associates’ head office, where they held several meetings with the company’s executives and sales teams. They also toured the company’s showrooms to observe the operations of J.A.N Associates’ staff firsthand. Later, the team explored the camera market at Bashundhara City Shopping Complex in the capital.
On the second day, May 8, the delegation visited the head office of Sonali Bank PLC, a key corporate client of Canon. They held a meeting with the bank's Managing Director, head of the IT department, and other senior officials. The day concluded with a dinner hosted by J.A.N Associates at the Sheraton Hotel in Banani, Dhaka.
During the event, Mr. Abdullah H. Kafi highlighted Bangladesh’s young population. He stated, ‘Bangladesh has a youthful population of approximately 45 million individuals aged between 15 and 29, representing 28% of the total population. This demographic is energetic, technologically adept, and highly enthusiastic about exploring new products and innovations. J.A.N Associates has been remarkably successful in engaging these young tech-savvy individuals. Our dedicated office staff, sales personnel, and service teams are actively interacting with them, understanding their needs, and working to fulfil their expectations.’
Mr. Toshiyuki Ishii, President and CEO of Canon Singapore, praised J.A.N Associates and its network of dealers and resellers. He commented, ‘Over the years, many young individuals have joined the ICT sector, and this trend is expected to continue in the coming years. My colleagues and I visited all the major IT markets in Dhaka and observed a strong presence of young people. They expressed great satisfaction with the quality and service of Canon products.’
The Canon delegation departed for their respective destinations on May 9.
