The disruption in National Identity (NID) card services has ended, with operations resuming after being suspended for about eight and a half hours. The services were restored on Tuesday evening, according to the Director General of the National Identity Registration Wing, ASM Humayun Kabir.
The temporary halt was caused by a technical issue related to the One-Time Password (OTP) required for logging into the NID server. Users encountered problems receiving the OTP, which is provided alongside the user ID and password for system access.
Humayun Kabir explained that the NID service operations rely on a service purchased from an external organization. The disruption occurred in that organization’s system, which was subsequently repaired around 5:30 PM on Tuesday. Work then commenced on the applications submitted during the day.
Normal and uninterrupted NID services were expected to be available starting from Wednesday morning, Humayun Kabir added yesterday.
Currently, Bangladesh has 123,732,274 registered voters. The Election Commission anticipates that approximately 6.3 million more voters could be added to the list once the ongoing household-based voter list update activity is completed.
