Meta Platforms announced on Tuesday that all new videos uploaded to Facebook will soon be categorized as Reels, a significant move to streamline video content on the social media platform. The company stated this change will remove previous length and format restrictions, unifying short-form, long-form, and live videos under the Reels brand.

While previously uploaded videos will not be affected, any video posted after the update rolls out will automatically become a Reel. As part of this overhaul, the “Video” tab on user profiles and pages will be renamed the “Reels” tab. Meta confirmed that users will also gain access to more creative editing tools and will be prompted to consolidate their audience settings for posts and Reels. These changes will be introduced globally over the next few months.
