In a significant leap towards integrating automation in daily life, students from the Department of Software Engineering at Daffodil International University (DIU) have unveiled an automated food delivery robot named “Kiti.”

The invention was formally inaugurated today at the university’s Aminul Islam Hall.

“Kiti” represents a cutting-edge innovation in the realm of last-mile food delivery, a system where autonomous robots are deployed to deliver meals from kitchens or restaurants directly to customers—eliminating the need for human delivery personnel.

The robot is equipped with advanced features including integrated cameras, sensors, and a navigation system that allows it to autonomously maneuver its surroundings. Using GPS and digital maps, “Kiti” can detect and avoid obstacles such as people, vehicles, and infrastructure while following a pre-programmed route.

The technology is primarily designed for use within university campuses, residential communities, and business districts. “Kiti” is currently in its first version, with further development anticipated.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Md. Jahangir Hossain, Director General of the Bangladesh Patent, Industrial Designs and Trademarks Department, formally inaugurated the robot.

The event was organized by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and presided over by Professor Dr. MR Kabir, Vice-Chancellor of DIU.

In his address, Hafizul Imran, Assistant Professor in the Software Engineering Department and the principal inventor of “Kiti,” shared insights into the robot’s journey.

“The name of the robot we created is Kiti. It is an automated food delivery robot. It was created by the Software Engineering Department of Daffodil International University. The journey of creating this robot began in 2022,” he said.

Also speaking at the event were Professor Dr. Kabirul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies; Dr. Md. Zahirul Islam, Consultant (Patent) at DIU; and Habibur Rahaman, Deputy Director (Patent) at the Department of Bangladesh Patent, Industrial Designs and Trademarks.

The highlight of the ceremony included the presentation of the Patent Development Award and certificate to the inventing team behind “Kiti,” recognizing their innovative contribution to Bangladesh’s growing tech landscape.
