The University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS) recently hosted a workshop on AI-powered impact startups for students interested in entrepreneurship. The event, organized by the university’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), took place yesterday afternoon at the Ratnagarva Tahmina Rahman Multipurpose Hall.

Titled “AI-Powered Impact Startups: How to Build a Startup to Solve Social or Environmental Problems,” the workshop saw key figures from the “Accelerating Bangladesh” program join students. Accelerating Bangladesh is a startup acceleration program for digital startups, operating as part of the Digital Entrepreneurship and Innovation Ecosystem Development (DEIED) project. It collaborates with the University Innovation Hub Program and the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority to foster innovation and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Muhammad Arifur Rahman, National Program Coordinator of Accelerating Bangladesh, delivered a presentation on “AI-Powered Startups.” He highlighted the immense potential for innovation and development of artificial intelligence (AI) in startups, explaining how AI can be leveraged to create new products, services, and business models. Dr. Rahman also discussed the challenges and opportunities for AI startups within the Bangladeshi context, including infrastructure, talent, and funding. He outlined effective strategies for developing and scaling AI-based solutions and emphasized the crucial role of Accelerating Bangladesh’s support programs and initiatives in AI innovation.

Providing practical insights, Umme Kulsum, Founder and CEO of Instajob, shared her experiences in a session titled “Idea to Impact Journey of Instajob.” Her presentation offered a real-world perspective on transforming an initial concept into a successful and impactful venture.

The workshop was attended by a team from Accelerating Bangladesh, including Senior Program Coordinator Md. Sharifull Islam, Lead Business Coach BM Benjir Ahmed, Business Coach Prosun Bepari, and Business Coach Shafiqul Alam Saif, along with other executive members.

Engineer Md. Safayet Hossain, Director of IQAC, delivered the welcome address. The event saw participation from 110 final-year students from the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Civil Engineering departments. Also present were UITS Proctor Md. Tarikul Islam and Industrial Attachment Supervisor and CSE Lecturer Md. Tasnim Tanvir.
