Universal College Bangladesh (UCBD) has hosted a masterclass on the growing importance of data science, highlighting global trends and future opportunities for Bangladeshi students.
The session, titled “Shaping the Future with Data: Global Trends & Bangladesh’s Path,” also saw UCBD announce the upcoming launch of its Bachelor’s in Data Science programme in partnership with the London School of Economics (LSE)-University of London, one of the world’s leading academic institutions, according to a press release.
The event aimed to familiarize HSC and A2 graduates and their guardians with the expanding field of data science, its global applications, and career prospects both at home and abroad.
Held at the UCBD Student Lounge, the masterclass underscored the central role of data in shaping future economies. It was attended by Prof. Hew Gill, President and Provost of UCBD, and featured Dr. James Abdey, Associate Academic Director at LSE, who outlined global developments in data science.
“We are pleased to announce that UCBD has recently received approval to offer a BSc in Data Science and Business Analytics,” Dr. Abdey said. “As the world becomes ever more data-driven, investing in data skills will not only contribute to personal career success but also enhance Bangladesh’s overall human capital.”
Providing a local perspective, Sumit Saha, CEO of Learn with Sumit (LWS) and Co-founder and Managing Director of Analyzen, said demand for skilled data professionals in Bangladesh is growing rapidly.
“Today, data is the new oil. Just as oil once determined the pace of economies, data now drives innovation and opportunity. Those who master it will stand at the centre of tomorrow’s most exciting careers, both locally and globally,” he added.
